EXILED: Crooked Rose Woods

Starting this topic for KC natives & in the know folks to share suggestions regarding places to go, things to see, dining, etc, for our Exiled guests!

To kick things off:

Weston, MO

Weston is a charming small town with a number of things to do while you’re there!

O’Malley’s Pub is a historic pub that goes deep underground. They often have live music as well, so check the calendar!

There are several restaurants such as Tin Kitchen, Avalon… and plenty of cute antique stores. Definitely could fill an entire day if you wanted to!

Dairy Queen

Dairy Queen is the preferred dining establishment of our Dairy King and honored Exiled guests. There are plenty of locations around the KC metro, so be sure to get your fix while you’re here!

While I am not a LOCAL to KC, I am going to be visiting Bonner Springs for the Renaissance Festival if you want to do something during the day before Exiled!

Been going for a couple of years. Clara and friends have been going for longer! It’s a fun festival with plenty of entertainment, food, and merchants!

Favorite shops include the taxidermy booth with bones, furs, taxidermy and other macabre items. Then, the incense booth that has a lot of great and inexpensive incense, oils, etc! (I don’t have the exact name of these shops but they’re great)

Just be prepared for heat because it can be HOOOT. If you happen to see a silly jester carrying around a opossum, come say hi!!

Exiled (duh)
Worlds of fun does some haunted houses but it’s kinda expensive and lame tbh

UMKC also does a spooky Drag Show, Hamburger Mary’s does too - tons of drag shows!!!

Historic downtown liberty does a farmers market on the weekends and has tons of cute stores, tie dye, restaurants, vintage stores, etc.

New Dinner theatre in Overland Park always has some good shows going!!!

Dark Forest

Select weekends in October and the first weekend in November, Powell Gardens holds Dark Forest. Very fun quixotic experience in the woods.

What are the good/bad neighborhoods to get a hotel room?

Go for Lenexa / Overland Park.

For me, I would want to know if you’re only staying one night, plan on poking around KC at all, and if you’ll have a rental/transportation or plan on relying on public transit/uber?

As a warning to most: the urban sprawl of KC is immense. Absolutely insane.

Those of us from Los Angeles will be curious to see this urban sprawl.

I am hardly the most qualified person to answer this but I want to throw out The Nighthawk. It's in the basement of Hotel Kansas City downtown and is a super cool space. They have 2 beers on tap: Nighthawk Light and Nighthawk Dark. Other than that, full bar. I think they even have some food offerings. https://www.nighthawkkc.com/
